IEEE B-HTC is a premier international conference dedicated to advancing humanitarian technology in service of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals — where engineering rigour meets real human need.
The 7th edition of this flagship conference of the IEEE Bangalore Section turns to the defining engineering challenge of our decade. Under the theme Countdown to 2030: Engineering Climate Resilience and Adaptation, anchored on UN SDG 13 (Climate Action), B-HTC 2027 asks not only how we reduce emissions, but how we engineer communities, infrastructure, and ecosystems to withstand a climate that has already changed.
The technical programme is built on the ADAPT framework — five resilience functions: Anticipate hazards, Defend critical assets, Absorb shocks to food, water, and health systems, Protect people through the disaster cycle, and Transform the systems that incremental measures can no longer carry. It will be held in Bengaluru, India, on 23 to 24 April 2027.
IEEE B-HTC is an annual event that brings together researchers, technologists, industry leaders, and field practitioners to turn breakthrough ideas into deployable solutions for the communities that need them most. Its highly selective technical programme features peer-reviewed papers submitted for inclusion in IEEE Xplore, held to a standard where every contribution must demonstrate measurable impact and stay grounded in the context it serves. It is complemented by keynote and plenary talks, focused workshops, student challenges, and industry sessions that connect rigorous research with the practical work of building a more resilient world.
The IPCC finds that some climate impacts are now unavoidable, and every further increment of warming intensifies the hazards communities already face: mitigation is essential but cannot undo what is already committed.
Yet adaptation remains chronically under-resourced — a shortfall that falls hardest on the communities least responsible for the crisis and least able to withstand it. B-HTC 2027 treats this as an engineering problem: through the ADAPT framework, it turns sensing and early warning, hardened infrastructure, resilient food, water, and health systems, disaster protection, and systemic tools into measurable resilience for the people who need it most.
